What this website currently uses

PlanningMapsUK.com does not use advertising cookies. We offer optional Google Analytics so we can understand which pages and guidance are useful. It remains off, and no Google Analytics tag is requested, until you choose Accept analytics. Our hosting and security providers may use strictly necessary cookies or similar technologies to deliver the site, protect it from automated abuse and keep it available.

A cookie is a small text file stored by a website in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage, which allows a site to remember a choice on your device without sending that choice to our server on every page request.

Essential technologies

TechnologyPurposeDuration
Hosting and security cookiesOur hosting provider may set a cookie such as __cf_bmto distinguish legitimate requests from automated traffic and protect the service.Provider-controlled and normally short-lived
External-content preferenceIf you choose to load a supported social-media feed, the site remembers that provider choice in your browser. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking by Copla Ltd.Until you withdraw the choice, clear site data or the preference version changes
planningmapsuk:analytics-consent:v1Local storage that records whether you accepted or rejected Google Analytics so the site can respect your choice.Until you change the choice, clear site data or the preference version changes

These technologies are used only where needed to provide a service you request, protect the website or remember the privacy choice you made.

Optional Google Analytics

If you accept, we load Google Analytics with measurement ID G-NW0R1R747N. It helps Copla Ltd understand visits, page views, interactions, approximate location, referring sources, and broad browser and device information. We use this information to improve the website and its guidance, not to personalise advertising.

We use Google's basic consent mode: analytics storage is denied by default and the Google tag is not loaded before you accept. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation remain denied. Google signals and advertising personalisation features are disabled in our tag configuration.

CookiePurposeDuration
_gaDistinguishes browsers so visits can be measured without identifying you by name.Up to 12 months after acceptance

Maps, logos and portfolio images

Contextual maps, including authority pages and the private planning-application prototype, use OpenStreetMap tiles to provide geographic context. Business and authority logos and portfolio images may be requested from the organisation's website or its image host. Those requests can reveal technical connection information, including your IP address, browser and the page making the request, to the relevant host. We use a restrictive referrer policy where the platform allows.

Authority-map tiles are requested when a map enters view. The private planning-application prototype requests map tiles when that page opens. OpenStreetMap's service may receive request information such as your IP address, browser or device type, operating system, the referring website, the requested map tiles, and the date and time. Its own terms and privacy information apply to those requests. Following any external link takes you to a separate website with its own cookie choices.

Read the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.

Social-media content only loads after your choice

A business page may offer a public X timeline or Facebook Page feed. We first show a Planning Maps UK placeholder. No feed script or frame is requested until you select the clearly labelled load button.

Loading a feed connects your browser directly to X or Facebook. That provider may receive your IP address, browser or device details, the page address and any cookies or account information it can lawfully read. Its own privacy and cookie terms then apply. LinkedIn and Instagram are currently provided as ordinary outbound profile links, not automatic feeds.

  • X privacy policy
  • Meta privacy policy for Facebook
  • LinkedIn privacy policy
  • Instagram privacy policy

Loading a social feed is optional. You can still use the directory and open the business's profile directly without loading an embedded feed.

How to change your choice

  • Use the first-visit choice to accept or reject Google Analytics. Rejecting does not restrict access to any part of the website.
  • Open Privacy and external content settings in the footer of any page to allow analytics later or turn it off. Turning it off withdraws consent and removes the first-party _ga cookies that this site can access.
  • Use the hide or withdraw control shown with a loaded feed.
  • Open the same footer settings and turn off all saved X and Facebook feed choices.
  • Clear site data for PlanningMapsUK.com in your browser to remove saved choices and any first-party cookies.
  • Use your browser settings to block third-party cookies. This may stop an embedded feed from working, but the direct profile link remains.

For general browser controls, see the Information Commissioner's guidance on cookies and similar technologies.

If our use of technology changes

We will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent before using any new non-essential cookie, tracking technology or external content provider. The review date at the top identifies the current version.

Questions can be sent to [email protected] or through our contact page.
